The Case for a Cleaning Routine (Not a Cleaning Day)

2 April 2026

Most people approach cleaning the same way: let things accumulate until the mess is undeniable, then spend a Saturday afternoon fixing it. It works, technically. But it's also the most effortful version of the task.

There's a better way, and it's not a productivity hack or a minimalism philosophy. It's just a short daily routine that keeps things from getting to the point where a big clean is necessary.

Why the "cleaning day" model is inefficient

When you clean infrequently, you're dealing with built-up grime, dried spills, and surfaces that require more product and more effort to restore. You're also doing it all at once, which is mentally and physically draining in a way that makes you less likely to do it again soon.

A daily routine, by contrast, keeps surfaces at a baseline that requires almost no effort to maintain. A quick spray and wipe of the kitchen bench after dinner takes 90 seconds. Doing it every day means you never have to scrub.

A simple structure

Morning (5 minutes): Wipe down bathroom basin and mirror with the Glass & Mirror Cleaner. Spray the kitchen bench. Done.

After cooking (2 minutes): Multi-Surface Cleaner on the stovetop and bench. Wipe down. Put away.

Weekly (15 minutes): Floors, bathroom surfaces, and anything that's been neglected. This is the only "cleaning session" you actually need if you've kept up with the daily routine.

The product side of it

Part of why cleaning routines fail is that the products are unpleasant to use. If your multi-surface cleaner smells like industrial solvent and leaves a film, you're not going to reach for it every day.

We designed our products to be things you actually want to use — light botanical scents, no residue, no fumes. The Multi-Surface Cleaner works on bench tops, appliances, and most hard surfaces. The Fabric & Linen Mist is good for upholstered furniture and bedding. Keep them somewhere accessible — under the sink, on the bench — so there's no friction in reaching for them.

The goal isn't a spotless home. It's a home that feels consistently good to be in, without the dread of a cleaning day looming on the calendar.
